I started skiing on the bunny hills and landfills of Alberta and Ontario, then got my fix when we moved out west as a kid. But it wasn’t until grade 8 when some classmates dragged me down Saudan Couloir on Blackcomb, and I rag-dolled the whole way down, losing all my gear including a boot... that’s when I was hooked! I figured if I could get out of that in one piece, who knew what else I could do? The nickname ‘Gumbi’ worked its way in, and I’ve been skiing full time ever since.

When Jamie isn’t skiing, he’s either thinking about it or writing about it. Based in Squamish, BC, Jamie’s off-snow time is passed as creator/editor of www.Doglotion.com – a cult classic freeskiing mag. His mission for new content and new lines takes him all over the globe each year, from Argentina to Kashmir, Europe to Whistler. Some of Jamie’s favourite descents include Mt Waddington (BC’s highest peak), rock dodging on Fuhrer’s Finger Mt Rainier, boot-deep down ‘Super C’ Couloir in Chile, and summer corn skiing on Mt Shasta in a Mexican wrestling costume.
